Revenge trading and overtrading: what they are and what actually interrupts them
By Aiobot · Oct 6, 2026
Revenge trading is chasing a loss with a bigger size or an instant opposite ticket. Overtrading is firing more trades than the plan allowed, often after a win as well as after a loss. A journal records the pattern; it does not block the next click. What interrupts the loop on an MT5 account is a hard daily loss line and a trade-count cap that reset on a published clock — in Aiobot, Guard daily loss and Max Daily Trades, only in Active Smart Mode, at broker midnight. Software is not counselling and does not make you pass a prop challenge.
What is revenge trading?
Revenge trading is changing the next ticket because the last one hurt: larger lot, wider stop, or an immediate reverse “to get it back”. The decision is emotional accounting, not the setup you wrote down before the session.
It often shows up after a red trade, a stop hunt, or a breakeven exit that felt unfair. The market does not owe a refund.
How is overtrading different?
Overtrading is too many tickets versus the plan — stacking ideas in one session, restarting after a win, or clicking every wick. You can overtrade without doubling size. You can revenge-trade in two tickets.
Both raise the chance of tagging a daily drawdown line even when each idea looked like “only 1%”.
Why does it show up after a loss or a win?
After a loss, the urge is repair. After a win, the urge is streak. Both skip the filter you use when the account is flat. Prop evaluations add a clock: one red morning can spend the daily room, then the rest of the day is recovery pressure. How evaluations actually fail: how to pass a prop firm challenge (process, not a pass-rate promise).
What mechanical limits actually interrupt it?
A journal (Excel, Notion, paper) is useful after. It does not stop the next market order.
On the account, two brakes are concrete:
- A daily loss you will not spend past — remaining room, not the brochure balance. Formula context: lot size.
- A trade-count cap so a spiral cannot become twelve tickets.
In Aiobot those map to Guard daily loss and Max Daily Trades. They run only when Smart Mode is Active, and they reset at broker midnight, not your wall clock. Guard watches equity, including floating loss. How the layers sit: how Guard works.
Leave Smart Mode Off if you do not intend the brakes to fire. Lock goes further: it closes what is open and cancels pending orders, without being a psychology course.
This is not therapy, not a cure for losing control, and not a claim that a cap makes you profitable.
Is a trading journal enough?
A journal shows the pattern. A cap blocks the click. Use both if you want; Aiobot is not a journal app and does not rank Notion templates.
Aiobot does not guarantee you will stop revenge trading or pass a funded account.
